Upcycle Day 2026

Explore the creative possibilities of upcycled materials through hands-on printmaking, collage, and paper-based art experiences.
No experience necessary! All levels of crafting expertise are welcome.
Spend the day exploring creative reuse through hands-on artmaking experiences that transform discarded paper, textiles, and found materials into something entirely new. Guests can experiment with a variety of printmaking, collage, book arts, and mixed-media activities through an assortment of drop-in stations - or dive deeper by adding on featured artist-led workshops in various print and paper artforms.
Whether you’re an experienced maker or simply looking to try something new, Upcycle Day offers an inspiring opportunity to create, explore, and discover the artistic potential of reuse!
With a General Admisson Ticket, guests can move at their own pace through interactive stations including:
Encaustic Monoprinting
Layer wax, texture, and color onto rescued paper to create one-of-a-kind expressive prints.
Screen Printing Demo
Print bold designs onto reclaimed fabric patches using simple screen-printing techniques and reused textiles.
Mail Art Collage Station
Transform vintage envelopes, magazines, maps, and paper scraps into playful mixed-media mail art to send.
Found Poetry from Book Pages
Reveal and embellish hidden poetry using rescued book pages, collage materials, and decorative details.
Texture Print Accordion Books
Use reclaimed textures and found objects to create layered prints on paper that folds into a handmade accordion-style book.
Envelope Book Making
Create a portable handmade book from repurposed envelopes and paper ephemera to collect notes, sketches, and inspiration.

with Kim Spivey
Create textured collagraph printing plates using fabric, paper, string, leaves, and other found materials. Then experiment with stencils, masks, and multiple printing techniques to create a series of unique monoprints by hand and with an etching press.
Kim Spivey is an artist living and working in South Florida. Spivey is a graduate from Florida Atlantic University with an MFA in painting and a BFA in printmaking. In addition to her own personal art practice Spivey enjoys teaching workshops in the community and spreading her love of printmaking.
with John Cutrone
Create a hand-bound journal using recycled greeting cards, paper scraps, and ephemera stitched together into a simple signature-style book. You’ll assemble your own reusable journal for writing, sketching, or gifting.
John Cutrone is Director of the Jaffe Center for Book Arts at Florida Atlantic University Libraries and a writer, book artist, and partner in Convivio Bookworks, a Lake Worth letterpress studio and book arts shop. He is the author of the Convivio Book of Days blog, serves as North American Editor of Parenthesis, the journal of the Fine Press Book Association, and holds an MFA in Book Arts from the University of Alabama.

with Susan Clifton
Explore intuitive printmaking using gelli plates, found textures, and upcycled materials to create layered monoprints. You’ll leave with a small portfolio of prints that can be compiled into a personal technique sampler or inspiration book.
Susan Clifton is a South Florida mixed media collage artist, instructor, and creator known for her gel-printed collage papers and signature mosaic-style figurative work. Blending abstract and representational elements, she creates colorful, uplifting pieces and shares her process with 37K+ YouTube subscribers and teaches online courses in gel printing, stencil design, and mixed media techniques.

Transform discarded paper, magazines, and printed scraps into rolled beads that can be strung into jewelry or decorative pieces. You’ll learn simple techniques for shaping, sealing, and finishing beads while giving new life to printed materials.
Holly is a local artist and craft instructor who combines her Psychology background with her creative experience to lead engaging workshops centered on creative mindfulness and self-expression. Her welcoming, low-pressure sessions encourage experimentation through activities like abstract art, collage, meditative line work, and tactile crafts. She leads programs for colleges, libraries, organizations, and private events, helping participants of all skill levels enjoy the process of making art.
with Autumn Kioti
Create striking sun prints on reclaimed fabric using cyanotype chemistry and found natural objects to build layered compositions. Each participant will produce a series of textile prints that explore light, shadow, and texture through upcycled materials.
Autumn Kioti Horne is a South Florida poet, interdisciplinary artist, performer, and environmental educator whose work explores language, identity, place, and ecological connection. Through text, movement, visual art, and repurposed materials, they create site-responsive projects that highlight overlooked stories, communities, and environments. Autumn is co-founder of Sea Change Collective and has exhibited work in museums, galleries, and unconventional spaces.
with Lisa Cox
Reimagine a discarded book by transforming its pages into a layered personal journal using collage, drawing, and mixed-media interventions. Each participant will reshape an existing book into a unique creative space for writing and reflection.
Lisa Cox is a lifelong crafter with a passion for exploring all forms of creative expression. She began sewing at age 10 and has since expanded her artistic practice to include fiber arts, paper arts, altered books, mail art, collage, and Gelli plate printing. A nurse practitioner by day and a maker by nights and weekends, Lisa enjoys sharing her love of creativity with others, including teaching a mail art workshop at Upcycle Day 2024.
