About the Artist
MIKE SILVERMAN
Mike Silverman is an emerging artist known for his intricate sculptures crafted from discarded technology, including hard drive platters and printed circuit boards. His unique artistic practice merges an inherent affinity for industrial art with the beauty he perceives in technology & remnants.
Silverman’s journey into art marks a distinctive second act in his professional life. Holding an undergraduate degree in religion and a master’s degree in business, his formal art education is limited to a
single stone carving class taken decades ago at the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, WA. In keeping with this non-traditional path, Silverman is entirely self-taught in his chosen medium, independently developing all aspects of his design and fabrication processes.
Approximately three years ago, Silverman began to systematically transform obsolete technological components. He meticulously shapes these materials using a scroll saw, creating nesting fragments that are then bolted and/or glued together to form the building blocks of his sculptural works. The highly reflective nature of hard drive platters, a primary component, introduces a dynamic element to his art, allowing the pieces to shift in tone and texture as the viewer moves around them.
An actively exhibiting artist, Silverman has shown his work locally in Palm Beach County and has also been featured at the International Symposium of Experimental Art. Through his work, Silverman contributes a distinctive voice to contemporary art, challenging perceptions of waste and inviting new perspectives on the convergence of technology and aesthetics.
