Junk Mail
A Collaborative Mail Art Exhibition

July 17 - August 14, 2021

Mail art became popular in the 1960's with artist like Marcel Duchamp, sending postcards with poems or drawing on them. As a Creative Reuse Center, mail art seems a very natural focus since artists often were reusing found materials from their life to create these small works of art. Mail Art can be a way to work with other artists, spread their art to faraway places and bring a surprise to  unsuspecting recipients.  During this time, receiving something other than bills and junk mail can be a true gift, so we asked artists from all over to make mail art that can be exhibited together. This show is a result of our open call. Over 44 artists from around the United States and some overseas, participated.

Along with the artwork from the artist, local viewers of the exhibition have the opportunity to take part. Throughout the exhibition participants  added to a section by upcycling their own postcard and adding it to our wall, all addressed postcards were mailed at the end of the exhibition.
