Runway Event at Resource Depot, April 23, 6 - 8 pm
Runway Event at Mounts Botanical Garden, May 8, 10 am - 2 pm
Catwalk is a program in which students ranging from elementary to high school are given a “trashformation” challenge: construct wearable art made from a variety of traditional and non-traditional materials. We want any student that is interested to participate, no matter what experience they may or may not have in sewing and non-traditional garment design. Participating students are given access to Resource Depot’s treasure trove of reusable materials and participate in weekly workshops, where they learn the basics of using a sewing machine, construction techniques, and receive guidance on how to incorporate the materials they choose. Through the use of nontraditional materials, the students gain environmental consciousness while thinking outside of the “trash”. This year we are partnering with Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach, our theme this year will be "In the garden", inspired by nature in the garden!
Check out our Runway from last spring by watching the video below.
Interested in participating? Keep reading and fill out our application below!
In order to join Catwalk, participants must be school aged students (we recommend 5th-12th grade), be able commit to the below dates, and be willing to be creative and work hard. Once enrolled in the Catwalk program we will have a series of meeting/workshops. Virtual options may be available, but we are spacing out meeting times to keep everyone safe. We will also have virtual resources to help students in the process. Parents, please look through the dates below as this program is a time commitment.
We require students to be there for the 1st, 2nd, last meeting and the runway events. If a student is comfortable with their making skills, they do not have to attend the other workshops and they can make from home. While all students will be given time to work here during workshop, students must be able to work at home on some aspects of their outfit to ensure completion. Students do not have to make a whole outfit, they can make part of an outfit. We encourage creative thinking and an open mind. Students can make outfits for themselves to model or use someone else as their model.
Deadline to apply is February 5, 2021.
