2022 Runway Events

Deadline to apply is January 13, 2022.

Catwalk is a program in which students ranging from elementary to high school are given a “trashformation” challenge:  construct wearable art made from a variety of traditional and non-traditional materials. Participating students are given access to Resource Depot’s treasure trove of reusable materials and participate in weekly workshops, where they learn the basics of using a sewing machine, construction techniques, and receive guidance on how to incorporate the materials they choose.  Through the use of nontraditional materials, the students gain environmental consciousness while thinking outside of the “trash”.

This year we are partnering with the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, our theme will be inspired by artwork, the Norton will be having us work with artwork from a new exhibition of Contemporary Artists.

We want any student that is interested to participate, no matter what experience they may or may not have in sewing and non-traditional garment design.

Check out our Runway from last spring by watching the video below.

Interested in participating? Keep reading and fill out our application below!

In order to join Catwalk, participants must be school aged students (we recommend 5th-12th grade), be able to commit to the below dates, and be willing to be creative and work hard.  Once enrolled in the Catwalk program we will have a series of meetings and opportunities for studio time at Resource Depot.  One-on-one designer meetings with our teaching artist(s) are offered on first-come/first-serve basis during these studio times for guidance.  We will also have virtual resources to help students in the process.

We encourage creative thinking and an open mind.  Outfits must be made of at least 50% upcycled materials, which can include working from existing/altered pieces of clothing as a base for their design. Students do not have to make a whole outfit, they can make part of an outfit. Students can make outfits for themselves to model or use someone else as their model.

We require students to be there for three mandatory meetings and the runway/exhibition events. If a student is comfortable with their making skills, they do not have to attend the studio times and they can make from home. While all students will be given time to work here during studio time, students must be able to work at home on some aspects of their outfit to ensure completion. If students only work during studio time and not on their own, it will be difficult for them to finish by the Runway Show Event.

Please look through the dates below before applying as this program

Catwalk is a rewarding experience, but also a time commitment

and has mandatory meeting requirements for participation.
