To join Catwalk, participants must be 6th-12th grade students, be able to commit to the program dates listed below, and be willing to be creative and work hard.  

Outfits must be made of at least 50% upcycled materials, which can include working from existing/altered pieces of clothing as a base for their design. Students do not have to make a whole outfit, they can make part of an outfit. Students can make outfits for themselves to model or use someone else as their model. We encourage creative thinking and an open mind. 

The Catwalk program requires students to attend several meetings during the design period.  Students can also sign up to be part of the Studio Intensives at Resource Depot and/or one-on-one designer meetings with our teaching artists. We will also have virtual resources to help students in the process. Everyone will showcase their outfits in a Runway event and have their outfits on display afterwards in our GalleRE. 

Participants may select from two program options:

Catwalk Program:  $25 Program Fee

• For participants that have participated in the Catwalk program in previous years and/or have extensive experience making outfits and are able to work from home with minimal assistance independently. 

• Participants will be required to attend mandatory meetings for progress checks, the final Runway show and following GalleRE exhibition. 

• Participants may get feedback and help when needed, but will be on an as-needed, as-requested basis. 

• Participants receive 5 visits/bins to collect materials from Resource Depot for their design (passes expire April 20, 2024). 

Studio Intensives:  $100 ( + $25 Program Fee )

• For those who have not participated in Catwalk before and/or have little to no experience and require regular guidance in the making process.

• In the 6 studio intensives, participants will learn some basics of the sewing machine, use of patterns, how to take measurements, alter pre-existing clothing, and learn to upcycle unusual items.  The majority of the time in Studio Intensives, participants will be working to complete their design.

• Each of the studio intensives are held on Saturday mornings at Resource Depot and are lead by an two teaching artists over the course of the program (January - April). 

• While all participants will be given time to work on their design during these intensives, participants must anticipate the need to work at home on some aspects of their outfit to ensure completion by the Runway.

• Participants receive 5 visits/bins to collect materials from Resource Depot for their design (passes expire April 20, 2024).

This program is funded in part by support from the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs which allows us to keep the costs as low as possible for participants. 

No other fees will apply to this program, but if a student requires items for their outfit that we do not have, the parents/guardian may need to purchase items outside of Resource Depot.
